An invitation to a journey through interwoven sonorities and musics, the repertoire of this concert is made up of of original Matrouz songs related to the Hebrew, Muslim and Christian cultural crucible of pluricultural Andalucia, as well as songs originating from different traditions, in particular the Judeo-Moroccan ones. Compositions and arrangements are based on the interaction between languages, notably Hebrew and Arabic with French, Judeo-Spanish, Amazigh (Berber), Hebrew and Latin, and between musics : Judeo-Arabic, Oriental, Maghrebi, Andalucian, medieval and Judeo-Spanish. In acapella or accompanied with instruments, the songs are introduced in French through short poetic sequences, or punctuated with vocal and instrumental improvisations, getting one to see various aspects of Judeo-Arabic culture in its singularity.
Through his innovating artistic work, Simon Elbaz, a writer, composer and comedian, fully enters into this cultural, poetic and cultural universe, in order to bear witness to this ancestral tradition. A faithful guardian of a millenary heritage, he gets inspiration from it to fertilize and enrichi it with new, innovative and original compositions, so as to make of them a creation which purports to bring together past and present
