A philosopher and sociologist, Edgar Morin was born in 1921 and was a voluntary veteran in the Resistance. He is joint editor of the « Arguments et Communicatiuons » periodicals. A research director at CNRS, and joint director of the «Centre d’Études Transdisciplinaires » (Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science) at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (1973-1989), he has been chairman of the  « Agence européenne pour la culture » (Unesco) and the  « Association pour la Pensée Complexe ». He has profuced several tens of publications and has been concerned with the elaboration of a method for thinking about complexity as reality, as knowledge and as a challenge of the modern world.

He is the current chairman of the Scientific Council of the « Institut des Sciences de la Communication du CRNS » of which he is also research director emeritus.

He is Doctor Honoris Causa of more than twenty universities worldwide in domains as varied as Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology and the Science of Education.
