Missa Flamenca Murciana
Curro and Carlos Piņana with the Diapason Quintet
Spain/Cuba

The Missa Flamenca Murciana is the latest work by the Piñana brothers, singer Curro and guitarist Carlos, who have a great family tradition of Flamenco music. The work is a mixture of Spanish flamenco and liturgy, in which one can find primitive vocal sounds of flamenco alongside Arab songs of lamentation, as well as Christian saetas (processional hymns), all coming together as one song to God.
In the melodies and rhythms of this programme, we will hear a capella songs which are reminiscent of Hindu ragas, Islamic calls of the muezzin, and prayers. All reflect the melange of influences found in flamenco music: Arab, Jewish and Christian .
Artistic and devotional expression is developed magnificently in the techniques of voice, guitar, violin, viola and double bass. The Diapason String Quintet, founded in Havana in 1994, melds traditional Cuban sounds with classical music and jazz
This Missa Flamenca – containing the soléa, verdiales, cantes mineros, peteneras, granaina, jaberas, and cartagenera – will have a profound effect on the audience, creating a feeling of heavenly peace, inspired by such musical meditation.
